Have you ever wondered how to take your business to the next level? Do you feel like you are doing the same thing every day and receiving the same ROI every day? It is time to shake up your entrepreneurial routine and do things bigger and bolder. It is time to get on stage.

READ ON FOR MY 5 BIGGEST TIPS ON HOW TO SUCCESSFULLY GET ON STAGE AND SHARE YOUR MESSAGE BELOW ⬇️

The failure rate for entrepreneurs has discouraged people for years, but this myth-busting stat from BLS data is one you can trust. On average, 30% of businesses will have failed by the end of their second year, and half will have closed their doors by the end of the fifth year. After a decade, only about a third of businesses will remain.

How can you stand out as an expert in your industry?

The simple answer is that you need to get in front of other people’s audiences and leverage yourself as an expert in your field.

HOW CAN YOU GET ON STAGES?

Pitching yourself and your business on stages can be a powerful way to build your brand and attract opportunities. Here are some expert tips to help you effectively get yourself on stage and deliver compelling pitches:

 1. Identify Relevant Stages: Research events, conferences, seminars, and workshops related to your industry or niche. Look for opportunities where your target audience congregates or where industry influencers gather.

 2. Craft an Engaging Pitch: Develop a concise and captivating pitch that clearly communicates who you are, what your business does, and why your audience should care. Highlight your unique selling points and the value you offer.

 3. Tailor Your Pitch to Each Stage: Customize your pitch to fit the specific audience and theme of each event. Show organizers that you understand their audience and how your presentation aligns with their goals.

 4. Build Credibility: Establish yourself as an authority in your field by sharing valuable insights, case studies, success stories, and statistics during your pitch. Demonstrate your expertise and credibility to gain the trust of your audience.

 5. Practice, Practice, Practice: Rehearse your pitch until it flows naturally and confidently. Practice in front of a mirror, with friends or colleagues, or record yourself to identify areas for improvement.

 6. Start Small: Begin by speaking at local meetups, workshops, or small conferences to gain experience and build your confidence. As you refine your speaking skills and grow your reputation, you can aim for larger stages.

 7. Network with Organizers: Connect with event organizers through social media, industry associations, or networking events. Build relationships with them and express your interest in speaking at their events. Offer to provide value to their audience.

 8. Utilize Your Network: Leverage your existing network to get introductions or recommendations to event organizers. Reach out to mentors, colleagues, or industry contacts who may have connections in the event planning community.

 9. Create Compelling Content: Produce high-quality content through blogs, videos, podcasts, or social media that showcase your expertise and thought leadership. Event organizers often look for speakers who have a strong online presence and can attract attendees.

 10. Follow-Up: After delivering your pitch, follow up with event organizers and attendees to thank them for the opportunity and gather feedback. Maintain relationships with organizers for potential future speaking engagements.

 11. Be Persistent but Respectful: If you don’t get selected for a particular event, don’t be discouraged. Keep refining your pitch and applying to relevant opportunities. Be persistent in pursuing speaking opportunities while respecting the decisions of event organizers.

MY BIGGEST TIPS TO HONE YOUR CRAFT AS A PUBLIC SPEAKER

#CREATIVECON

Landing a speaking gig is a surefire way to start monetizing your brand. Here are our favorite tips to launch your speaking career. We put a lot of energy into our brands and what we know to be true is when you speak on stage, you have the power to leverage your expertise, monetize your business, and grow exponentially. Public speaking gives you access to prove your viability and interact with stakeholders. While this seems like a no-brainer, it can be terrifying for a lot of creative entrepreneurs. Here is where you start⬇️

 1. Toastmasters- Toastmasters International is a nonprofit educational organization that builds confidence and teaches public speaking skills through a worldwide network of clubs that meet online and in person. This is a great place to receive feedback in realtime.

 2. Speaker One Sheet- A speaker one sheet, otherwise known as a “speaker sheet” or “one-pager,” is a one-page document (one or two-sided) explaining who you are, what you speak about, and why the event planner reading it should hire you. In other words, your one sheet is a brief resume of your speaking experience.

 3. Start talking everywhere for free- i.e. Library, schools, Chamber of Commerce Events. The more you speak in front of audiences the more confidence you will gain, as well as an audience hungry for your knowledge.

 4. Sign up for eSpeakers Bureau (or a qualified speakers bureau)- Speakers bureaus connect qualified speakers with event planners. Create a powerful profile and connect with potential speaking gigs.

 5. Look for Speaker Calls — Research speaker calls online. Many conferences post a speaker call (request for speakers) on their websites. Look for conferences in your niche and start pitching them.

<![CDATA[How To Use Patreon To Make Money]]>https://www.julielokuncoaching.com/post/how-to-use-patreon-to-make-money65fda7ee2ad9685ac533c931Fri, 22 Mar 2024 16:05:46 GMTJulie Drost Lokun

As a creative entrepreneur, it is so important that we maximize our creativity and monetize our special skills and talents. This is why I love Patreon. Patreon offers a platform in which you can monetize your content, innovations and, skillsets that result in a monthly reoccurring revenue. (MMR IS EVERYTHING FOR ENTREPRENEURS).

Think of Patreon as a social media platform that allows you the autonomy to offer exclusive content, extra advice and, behind-the-scenes intel that your audience is craving behind a paywall.

In the digital age, creators are finding innovative ways to share their talents, skills, and passions with the world. Whether you're an artist, musician, writer, podcaster, or any other kind of content creator, platforms like Patreon offer a unique opportunity to monetize your work directly from your audience. With its subscription-based model, Patreon has become a powerful tool for creators to connect with their fans, build a community, and generate a sustainable income. If you're considering using Patreon to make money, here's a comprehensive guide to help you get started.

Understanding Patreon

Patreon is a membership platform that allows creators to earn money from their fans or "patrons." Unlike traditional crowdfunding platforms where creators receive one-time donations, Patreon operates on a recurring revenue model. Patrons pledge to support creators on a monthly-basis, providing them with a steady income stream. In return, creators offer various perks and rewards to their patrons, such as exclusive content, behind-the-scenes access, merchandise, and personalized interactions.

Getting Started

 1. Set Up Your Account: The first step is to create a Patreon account. Choose a memorable username and complete your profile with a compelling bio, profile picture, and links to your other social media accounts and websites.

 2. Define Your Goals and Offerings: Determine what kind of content you want to create and what value you can offer to your patrons. Consider what exclusive perks and rewards you can provide to incentivize people to support you.

 3. Tiered Membership Levels: Create tiered membership levels with varying benefits and price points. This allows patrons to choose the level of support that aligns with their budget and interests. Common tier names include "Basic," "Premium," and "VIP," each offering escalating benefits.

Building Your Patreon Page

 1. Craft Compelling Content: Your Patreon page is your storefront, so make it visually appealing and informative. Use high-quality images, videos, and graphics to showcase your work and communicate your value proposition to potential patrons.

 2. Write Engaging Descriptions: Clearly articulate what patrons can expect by supporting you, including the benefits they'll receive at each membership tier. Use persuasive language to encourage people to become patrons.

 3. Promote Your Page: Share your Patreon page across your social media channels, website, email newsletter, and other platforms where you have a presence. Encourage your existing audience to support you on Patreon and explain how their contributions will enable you to create more and better content.

Engaging with Your Patrons

 1. Fulfill Your Promises: Deliver on the perks and rewards you promised to your patrons in a timely manner. Consistently provide exclusive content and engage with your community to keep them satisfied and motivated to continue their support.

 2. Communicate Regularly: Keep your patrons informed about your latest projects, upcoming releases, and behind-the-scenes updates. Foster a sense of exclusivity and belonging by making them feel like valued members of your inner circle.

 3. Solicit Feedback: Listen to your patrons' feedback and suggestions for how you can improve your Patreon offerings. Use polls, surveys, and Q&A sessions to gather input and involve your community in decision-making processes.

Maximizing Your Earnings

 1. Offer Special Promotions: Run limited-time promotions or discounts to incentivize new patrons to sign up or existing patrons to upgrade to higher tiers. Consider offering exclusive merchandise or experiences as rewards for reaching certain milestones.

 2. Diversify Your Offerings: Experiment with different types of content, merchandise, and subscription tiers to appeal to a broader audience. Test out new ideas and solicit feedback to see what resonates most with your patrons.

 3. Collaborate with Other Creators: Partner with other creators in your niche to cross-promote each other's Patreon pages and expand your reach. Collaborative projects and joint events can attract new patrons who are fans of your collaborators.

Patreon provides creators with a flexible and sustainable way to monetize their work while building a loyal community of supporters. By offering exclusive perks and rewards, engaging with your patrons, and continually providing value, you can leverage Patreon to turn your passion into a profitable venture. With dedication, creativity, and strategic planning, you can unlock the full potential of Patreon and achieve financial success as a content creator. So, seize the opportunity, uplevel your creativity, and start monetizing your passion on Patreon today!

<![CDATA["The Dark Side of Reality TV: The Psychological Cost of Fame"]]>https://www.julielokuncoaching.com/post/reality-tv-what-is-the-cost65edfc9f83008f77b12b82deSun, 10 Mar 2024 18:45:18 GMTJulie Drost LokunIn the era of constant distraction, reality television has entrenched itself as a staple in our entertainment landscape. From the allure of the Kardashians to the saga of Sister Wives, we are drawn to the drama of others like moths to a flame. But why do we continue to tune in, and at what price does this obsession come?

According to Social.com, there exists a complex relationship between viewers and the reality TV phenomenon. Nearly four in ten individuals indulge in some form of reality TV, yet a significant portion feel compelled to hide their guilty pleasure. Surprisingly, a considerable number of adult men compare their lives to those of reality stars, while young Americans find inspiration in their on-screen antics. The statistics paint a vivid picture of a diverse audience captivated by the trials and triumphs of reality TV celebrities.

Having worked closely with reality TV personalities, including stars from The Real Housewives and TLC, I've observed a curious dichotomy. We idolize these stars, yet recoil from the notion of emulating their lives entirely. Entranced by the glitz and glamour, we vicariously experience their highs and lows, investing deeply in their scripted dramas and celebrating their victories.

REAL HOUSEWIVES- Case Study

Consider the behemoth that is Bravo's Housewives franchise. From the onset, cast members understand the toll fame may take on their relationships, be it through divorce, estrangement, or tragedy.

Take Kyle Richards, for instance. Her journey on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills has been fraught with the strain of familial estrangement and the profound loss of her best friend to suicide. Rumors swirl about the state of her marriage to Mauricio Umansky, further highlighting the sacrifices made in the pursuit of reality TV stardom.

Or consider Teresa Giudice, the enduring figurehead of The Real Housewives of New Jersey. Her tenure has been marked by legal troubles, incarceration, divorce, and the devastating loss of her parents, all played out under the unforgiving glare of the public eye.

Then there's Kim Zolciak-Biermann, the vivacious star of The Real Housewives of Atlanta, whose whirlwind romance with Kroy Biermann has faced its share of financial woes and speculation about their future.

In scrutinizing these narratives, one must ponder: Does the misfortune of others serve to validate our own comparatively mundane lives? Are we, as viewers, unwittingly sacrificing the well-being of these celebrity figures at the altar of our entertainment?

As we continue to grapple with these questions, it becomes imperative to reassess our relationship with reality TV. While the allure of escapism is undeniable, we mustn't lose sight of the human cost behind the glitz and glamour. In a world enamored with manufactured drama, perhaps it's time to pause and reflect on the true value of our entertainment choices.

<![CDATA[Unlock The Secrets of Explosive Brand Growth and Marketing]]>https://www.julielokuncoaching.com/post/unlock-the-secrets-of-explosive-brand-growth-and-marketing65d755db6e9187e35910a4c8Thu, 22 Feb 2024 14:36:20 GMTJulie Drost Lokun

Just Do It! Understand Marketing and Brand Growth.

You need to be everywhere.

Let me qualify this huge statement by saying if you are building your brand as an author, an entrepreneur, a podcaster, or a speaker, your brand must be inked on as many platforms as possible. Your digital footprint is inextricably linked to the almighty power of Google. If Google cannot find you, you do not exist in the digital universe.

Your voice needs to be heard in the rafters of a collective theater that is your audience. Creating content on social media should be just a fraction of your marketing master plan. I implore you to think outside the box and deviate from what everyone else is doing. Think about guesting on podcasts. Consider writing a blog on Medium.com or starting a newsletter on Substack. Apply to be an executive contributor for Entrepreneur Magazine or Forbes. Build a MeetUp Community. Launch a Patreon page. Write for Newsbreak.com. Optimize your SEOs on your website so you become searchable in Google’s eyes. And don’t forget to start a Google Business Page. Whatever you do, start with small steps and keep focused on your message.

If you take away one thing, remember, do not confine yourself to one platform, where algorithms dictate who sees your content.

As a consumer of content, I want to hear your message, and see and feel your brand in the digital universe. Your content should pull me in with urgency and make me want to sing your jingle.

I want to need you.

First and foremost, as a consumer, I need to understand your story. I must connect with the complex struggles that make you unique and position you as an expert. When you can convey your message in a profound and concise way, the trajectory of your brand has the power to explode.

Sharon's Story

I had a client, Sharon, who focused primarily on Facebook and Instagram as a means to build her brand. In my opinion, social media is the low-hanging fruit, that allows every Tom, Dick, and Sally to promote themselves for free. Sharon spent hours a week formulating posts to represent her brand messaging. Sharon was met with a brick wall. She walked into my office, with a defeated look. “Jules, I can’t do this anymore. I am creating content, and I get 4 or 5 likes, there is no engagement I certainly am not getting any clients.”

Sharon had been a coach for 5 years, and was failing to capture an audience that hung on her every word. Her content was bland, as she gave simple tips on how to uplevel your personal and professional life. Sharon failed to share her struggles, express the “WHY” behind her brand, and not connect with anyone. Facebook and Instagram are flooded with self-promoting professionals like herself, which left Sharon in the mire of the scroll. She spent hours creating content that no one was seeing. I proved my point when I Googled her name, and little popped up on the search.

While disheartened, Sharon was eager to hear my solution. I grabbed a piece of paper and started to scribble out a revised plan to promote everything that is Sharon. I first wanted to know about her ideal client.

We started here to understand marketing and brand growth:

 • Who is your client avatar?

 • How old are they?

 • Do they have children?

 • Where do they shop?

 • What is their income?

 • What do they need more than anyone else?

 • What keeps them up at night?

 • How can you solve this problem?

Once you understand the pain points of your ideal client, you must create a methodology to relieve their struggle. For example, if your ideal client or audience struggles with their weight, implement a solid strategy to assist their health journey. If you desire an audience who wants to be entertained by fiction fantasy, give them content that transports them into another dimension.

Next, I asked Sharon, where would she find these clients. Are you on social media? What magazines do they read? What clubs are they a part of? What do they do for fun?

Once we knew where to find them we needed to take action. Sharon’s ideal clients were women, aged 40-50, who had children leaving the nest. These women lacked purpose and a vision for their lives. We decided as a team, Sharon would join local women’s groups, she would write for Mind Valley Magazine and she would start a Meet Up group, called Second Act. Within a month of implementing a new strategy, Sharon had three new clients and tested the waters on multiple different online platforms.

When I began this journey of brand building, I felt like a narcissist. I had initial trepidation in pasting my name, and my name, and story all over the internet. The truth is, no one knows you. And frankly, no one cares. No one cares, because they are bombarded with a continual stream of content. So you must stand out.

If you are decisively reticent to self-promote your brand, everything you strive for is an exercise in futility. But fear not my friend. You are not alone. When I first ventured out into the world of entrepreneurship, I was knee-deep in feeling the grips of imposter syndrome. However, taking small steps every day, and being consistent eases this pain.

Understand Marketing and Brand Growth with Julie Lokun

My Top Brand-Building Secrets By Increasing Marketing and Brand Growth.

1. When building out your digital footprint, you need to start with a well-crafted website. This website should be chock full of SEOs (Search Engine Optimizers). Sprinkle backlinks all over your website that will send a curious client from one page to another. Backlinks strengthen your searchability on Google. Your website is the foundation of your brand, so be certain it is properly set up. Furthermore, a blog on your website fattens up your searchability. Consider a blog as an integral part of your brand identity.

Tip: I like to use the Chrome extension Keywords Everywhere to analyze keywords and find out what my “competitors” use.

2. Create a Google Business. Google loves it when you use their platforms. Google Business is super easy to set up and will let you know you are open for business. Do this too if you are an author, a podcaster or a public speaker.

3. Ask for testimonials. Testimonials are crucial in the digital world. Testimonials, reviews, and ratings are an essential part of building your credibility. This becomes social proof that you are someone not to ignore.

4. Start creating an email list. Offer your audience value in exchange for their email. This can be done on your website while offering them a valuable eBook or worksheet that will begin them on their journey. The email list is the most intimate way to sell or promote yourself and your brand. Your list is a pocket of potential clients who want to know more about you.

Tip: If you feel you are a weak writer, check out PLR.ME. PLR stands for personal licensing rights (so once you download, you own the rights). PLR.ME provides a large library of usable eBooks, articles, worksheets (and more) that you can brand yourself and share with the world.

5. Pitch Yourself: Start today. Start pitching your story to podcasters, radio show hosts, journalists, and more. When you are on someone’s podcast, show or featured in a blog, you are positioning yourself in front of someone else’s audience. Create a Media Sheet, which is a comprehensive 1-page sheet that showcases your brand, accomplishments, and story.

Tip: Create profiles on Podmatch.com or Podbooker.com. These websites match you with podcasters looking for a guest like yourself. If you are looking to be a reference for journalists, create a profile on HARO.com. HARO (Help A Reporter Out) is a clearing house of experts and journalists often refer to this site when they are writing a story and need an expert.

Building your brand and online presence should feel electric. After all, your brand is an extension of who you are at your core. At times, it does feel overwhelming. Take the process at a sustainable pace. And always ask for help. After all, we are better together.

<![CDATA[Ditch Social Media? How To Break Free From The Brainwashing With Real Social Media Help]]>https://www.julielokuncoaching.com/post/social-media-help6521a412e39b0d222406fd9eSat, 07 Oct 2023 18:58:31 GMTJulie Drost Lokun

In today’s business climate, the idea of “media coverage” is inextricably linked to social media marketing. While social media marketing is a fruitful avenue for many brands, I liken it to the lowest-hanging fruit on the brand-building tree. Everyone is doing it because it is what everyone is doing.

I do not hate social media platforms. In fact, I love the democratization of these platforms, as they offer every Tom, Dick, and Sarah an opportunity to share their message with the universe. Yes, invest in your social media, because it is a necessary cog in your online presence. Social media platforms like LinkedIn, Instagram, and Facebook draw a high domain authority and help you become searchable in the almighty universe of Google. When clients ask me about social media, I advise them to focus on one platform and do it well. I have witnessed the rabbit hole of wishing on a star that a post will go viral.

It goes something like this:

post, post, post, post, cross your fingers, post and post, then post again.

I suggest doing a quick analysis of your favorite social media platform and decipher if the energy you are putting into these platforms is offering you the ROI you require for maximizing growth.

Are you selling your services?

Are you selling your book?

Are you getting more listens on your podcast?

If so, you have figured out the secret to social media marketing. ⬇️

Consistency, focus, and engagement are key.

To make a sale or acquire a new client is born out of knowing, liking, and trusting you. Think about the last thing you purchased. What were the elements that took you from curious to client?

I suggest that you knew the product or person, or that you were referred to this purchase by someone you knew, liked, and trusted. Cold selling is a tough approach that yields low results. I have a client who would post their services on social media with unabashed bravado. She made beautiful posts telling everyone about her offer.

“I am a coach, and I can change the way you do your business”. She bombarded my feed about what she did, instead of who she was. This approach felt sterile and almost offputting. I knew she could do the job, but she did not connect with me on a human level. If I am not connected with her, I will not give her thousands of dollars to change my life. Period.

Where to start:

Understand your story. Understand that your story is the stuff that binds you with the universe. Your story, whether it is big and bold or simple and understated, has the power to connect with your audience. In the beginning, I had a really hard time articulating my story. I told myself that I was boring, yet I had the tenacity of a bull. I worked hard, and that was that. The truth is, my story goes deeper than I could imagine.

I had to first, understand my WHY. Why am I offering media services? Why am I more valuable than anyone else in the industry?

This was my answer:

I was born a loudmouth. The nurses at the hospital, the day I was born reported to my mom that I was the loudest baby in the nursery. It goes further. I was often told as a young girl I was too much, too complex, too emotional, and too verbal. In fifth grade, I held court in the corner of the room, as I was told I was a chatterbox. My peers retreated and thought of my spirited commentaries as weird. It became a lonely place as a young girl to become isolated. My defense mechanism was to become “normal”. I strived to fit in, to be liked, and to be like everyone else. I did all the things I was supposed to, go to college, and law school, get married, have babies, and buy the house with the white picket fence.

The result? I was miserable.

 • I got divorced.

 • I grew to hate the idea of being a lawyer.

 • I moved out of my house with a white picket fence.

 • And I worked in a corporate conglomerate that offered me little autonomy.

Doing everything like everyone else was a vacuum of my creativity.

UNTIL- I became bold enough to tap into my true spirit and use my voice to change the world. I built a business in one year that yielded six figures and a deep satisfaction within my soul. Kind of ironic, that for so long I was told to shut up. And now, I have two podcasts, four books, 2 blogs, write for various magazines, and am ASKED to speak daily.

This is my story. It is unique to me, yet it is not. I am sure that there a hundreds of thousands of people who connect with my story.

By sharing my story I am giving you a piece of who I am. I am connecting with those who wish to get their message out and use their voice to build their brand and business. I do this with the unabashed enthusiasm that was once relegated to the corner of my 5th-grade class.

By sharing your story, you will connect with a potential audience. When you understand the pain that exists for your future clients you can speak to them with deep understanding.

BACK TO SOCIAL MEDIA AND YOUR OTHER OPTIONS:Here is Your REAL Social Media Help

I urge you to move past the pastures of social media platforms. Moving the ball forward includes being diverse in your online presence. I recognized this the day I became a writer for Entrepreneur Magazine. Writing for a trusted and established authority, like Entrepreneur Magazine, positions you as a thought leader in your industry. Check out opportunities to write in publications like Brainz Magazine, News Break, Mind Valley, or other outlets like this.

If you do not have the bandwidth to write articles for these types of outlets, make a concerted effort to engage with journalists. Many journalists are dying to have an opinion like yours. They need experts to quote in their articles. Do your research on journalists who write articles in your industry and reach out to them.

Here are my tried and true tips:

Sign up for HARO: Help A Reporter Out - Build an online profile on this website and pitch potential journalists on why you are an expert in your field. Journalists looking for your expertise will find you here on this site.

Research on Muck Rack: Muck Rack is the clearing house for all journalists and the articles they publish. Do a search on your industry and/or expertise and see what journalists are writing on your topic. Then reach out. Throw them out a compliment on their latest article or send them a note on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Research your favorite topics on Facebook: Facebook is a great resource for communities who love what you do. Find these groups and become an active member.

Whatever you do, do not put all your eggs in one basket. As I mentioned at the beginning of this article to stay focused, do not rely on one medium to build your brand. Unbrainwash yourself, do your research, and build a powerful brand that generates a true community of followers. These people will become your ride or die. These people will then transform into ambassadors of your brand.

You have the power to use your voice in a unique way. You, and only you, have the power to change the world.

You Got This--Jules

I sit here in the deep south in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, which is flanked by the slow-moving currents of the Black Warrior River, wondering how did I end up here?

How does a suburbanite from Chicago end up in the suffocating heat of Alabama in August?

The answer is simple: she is dropping her baby boy off at college.

Sam, my second child, said yes to Roll Tide Nation, and the rest is history. With unabashed enthusiasm for the campus life and education that the University of Alabama provides Sam never deviated from his decision. He left Mom, with a tiny tear in her heart, wondering if --"IS THIS IT"?

Why am I writing about my kid going to college when I typically try to provide you with actionable strategies to uplevel your entrepreneurial life as a creative?

I am sharing this punch-to-the-gut because it is the stuff that makes us real. These stories are the ones that capture the attention of readers and also connect us to the bigger picture in life. Gary Vaynerchuk pontificates that our stories are the most important things we have as entrepreneurs.

Storytelling is the thread that weaves communities together. If you are a parent, you know everything halts when moving your child to college. You understand why I am wearing sunglasses right now (to hide the tears). And moms and dads, you understand the sharp pain when you say goodbye to baby child. You connect with me, because of my pain, and you champion me when I triumph.

Without a deep-seated appreciation for your story, you become a 2-dimensional character in life and in your brand. Your audience craves the grittiness of your failures and the ultimate ascension to your success. Your story is all that matters.

No matter what your expertise and industry, you need to tap into your story and weave it into your brand.

This is how you are going to start right now,

Answer these three questions:

What is the hardest challenge you have faced in your life?

What are you most proud of?

Why does this matter to your audience?

Begin by recognizing the substantial stories that have led you to where you are now and strategically align these stories to connect with your audience. Curate content that matters. Don't simply copy and paste the latest and greatest words of others, dig deep into the underbelly of who you are and share YOUR words with those who will connect with your message.

SIDEBAR: This is where Chat GPT profoundly fails. Chat GPT cannot capture the true essence of your experience as a human. I am disheartened by the dehumanizing effect AI is having on the entrepreneurial community.

The importance of creating content that reflects your story creates trust. According to Hubspot, 60% of consumers feel more comfortable when the content on your website and social media posts are customized.

Here are my top ways to share your story in a powerful way:

 1. Blogging: Curate your story in blog form on your website. Blogging is a superpower for SEOs and then repurposing portions of your blog on Medium.com (it is like Instagram for bloggers). Medium has a strong domain authority and helps you rank higher in Google Searches.

 2. Use your story to support your brand and business on social audio. Using social audio apps like Clubhouse is a great way to create an intimate space with your potential clients and customers.

 3. Create visual snippets of your story to share everywhere. Use YouTube Shorts, Instagram Reels and TikTok. This allows access to your audience to gain trust and give them the sense that you are 3-dimensional.

Back to my story.

My little guy is gone.

He has launched.

Momma is sitting here thinking about the day I gave birth, the proudest moments we shared together, and the times I wanted to pull my hair out.

It is hard.

Remember the most important thing in life (personal and professional) are the relationships we build and the stories we share.

Goodbye Sam, I love you.

<![CDATA[How To Start Speaking on Stage (& Get Paid) + BONUS: Watch My Interview With Gary Vee⬇️]]>https://www.julielokuncoaching.com/post/how-to-start-speaking-on-stages-and-make-money-and-watch-my-interview-with-gary-vaynerchuk647a937167f17fe2acae952cSat, 03 Jun 2023 01:52:46 GMTJulie Drost Lokun

Truth-I have a fear of speaking on stage. I fumble with the mic, my hands get clammy and the butterflies are like fireworks in my belly.

This is my truth.

Yet, I still speak on stages.

There is an origin story to this fear. Rewind 20 years ago, I was presenting a case in front of a federal judge (yes, I do have a law degree), and blacked out. Yes, that is correct. I blacked out. My raw nerves frayed into a panic and I have no recollection of the event. I did not faint and I did not swoon.

What I did do is create a trauma bond with public speaking. The grip was so tight I refused to speak in public again.

⭐ MAKE MONEY SPEAKING AND DO IT RIGHT

Get my tips on how to create a speaker brand and how to launch your speaking career below⬇️

Fast forward two decades later, I am speaking on stage and am the host of two really great podcasts. And yet every time I turn on the mic, I feel a twinge of anxiety. However, I now reframe perceived anxiety as excitement.

The bridge from panicked speaker to celebrated voice is a jagged road of trial and error. If you fear speaking more than death, this blog is for you. I know this feeling and it is real. The feeling of overwhelm and loss of control leaves a bitter taste in the mouth of aspiring authors, creatives, and business people. While the feeling can be suffocating, it needs to be recognized that this fear of public speaking is a FEAR.

Everything you dream of is on the other side of fear. Before I get into the nuts and bolts of building out your brand as a speaker I need to give you a backstory. Clearly, I felt traumatized by speaking on stage. I retired my mic for a decade, built a successful consulting business, and knew that in order to grow my brand I needed to use my voice on various platforms. My four books were born out of a passion to teach others all that I have learned. My two podcasts were vehicles to share my wisdom. As a CEO and wannabe thought leader, I knew that I had to deal with my demons and throw my hat into the speaking ring again.

BINGO

When you draw people into your ecosystem, your brand will experience exponential growth.

Start Small.

Start speaking wherever you can. Do it for free. Create a message that speaks to your desired audience and then re-create it.

 1. Define your message: Start by clarifying the key message you want to deliver to your audience. Identify the core purpose and value you want to convey through your speeches. This will provide a clear direction for your content development.

 2. Research and understand your audience: Know your target audience and their needs, challenges, and interests. Conduct market research, surveys, and interviews to gather insights. Tailor your speeches to address their specific pain points and provide practical solutions.

 3. Join Toastmasters: Toastmasters International is a non-profit organization that helps individuals improve their public speaking and leadership skills. It offers a supportive environment for practicing speeches, receiving constructive feedback, and developing confidence on stage.

 4. Craft compelling stories: Incorporate storytelling techniques into your speeches to captivate and engage your audience. Craft personal anecdotes or case studies that highlight your expertise and connect with your audience on an emotional level.

 5. Practice, practice, practice: Rehearse your speeches thoroughly to build confidence and improve delivery. Practice in front of a mirror, record yourself or seek opportunities to speak in smaller, low-pressure settings. Refine your content, timing, and body language through repeated practice.

 6. Utilize visual aids: Enhance your presentations with visual aids such as slides, videos, or props. Use them strategically to reinforce key points, provide visual explanations, or evoke emotions. Ensure that your visual aids are simple, visually appealing, and support your overall message.

 7. Engage with your audience: Interact with your audience during your speech to foster engagement. Incorporate questions, polls, or interactive activities to encourage participation and create a dynamic atmosphere. This helps keep the audience interested and reinforces their connection to your message.

 8. Leverage social media and video platforms: Record and share your speeches on platforms like YouTube, LinkedIn, or your website. This enables you to reach a wider audience and showcase your expertise. Additionally, use social media to promote your upcoming speaking engagements, share valuable content, and connect with event organizers and potential attendees.

 9. Attend speaking workshops and conferences: Seek out workshops and conferences focused on public speaking, communication, and entrepreneurship. These events offer valuable networking opportunities, exposure to industry experts, and the chance to learn from successful speakers. Apply the knowledge and insights gained to enhance your own speaking skills.

 10. Hire a speaking coach: Consider working with a speaking coach who can provide personalized guidance and constructive feedback, and help you refine your stage presence, delivery, and overall speaking style. They can help you identify areas of improvement and offer strategies to overcome them.

Take a deep breath and understand that creating a strong brand is the lynchpin to building out speaking opportunities. It is essential that you have a speaker one sheet and a sizzle reel.

Look into speaking bureaus to accelerate speaking connections. Here is my best advice:

Speaker Bureaus:

 1. SpeakerHub: Offers a platform connecting event organizers with speakers globally. Fees: SpeakerHub charges a commission fee of 10-30% of the speaking fee.

 2. eSpeakers: A comprehensive platform for booking and managing speakers. Fees: eSpeakers charges a commission fee of 10-30% of the speaking fee.

 3. National Speakers Association (NSA): A professional association that provides resources and connections for speakers. NSA has a directory of speakers for event planners. Fees: NSA membership fees range from $405 to $845 per year.

Pros of working with speaker bureaus:

 • Access to a network of event organizers actively seeking speakers.

 • Increased visibility and exposure to a broader audience through the bureau's marketing efforts.

 • Assistance with negotiating speaking fees and contracts, potentially leading to higher earnings.

 • A professional representation that enhances credibility and reputation as a speaker.

 • Streamlined logistics support, including travel arrangements and event coordination.

 • Opportunities for ongoing partnerships and repeat bookings through the bureau's client relationships.

Cons of working with speaker bureaus:

 • Commission fees: Speaker bureaus typically deduct a commission fee from the speaking fees, ranging from 10-30%.

 • Limited control over the booking process and potential restrictions on working with other bureaus or seeking direct bookings.

 • Dependence on the bureau's marketing efforts, which may not perfectly align with your personal brand.

 • Possible competition within the bureau's roster of speakers, reducing individual visibility.

 • Varied quality among speaker bureaus, with some providing better support and opportunities than others.

And as promised, here is my interview with Gary Vaynerchuk. I will admit, I had butterflies, but the butterflies turned into a beautiful experience I will never forget.

<![CDATA[Who is Gary Vee? (Gary Vaynerchuk) - And why he is a BREAKOUT from The Norm]]>https://www.julielokuncoaching.com/post/who-is-gary-vee-gary-vaynerchuk-and-why-he-is-crushing-it643b0cc0cc77f0ef2367f663Sat, 15 Apr 2023 21:16:00 GMTJulie Drost LokunOdds are you have heard the name, Gary Vee. More specifically, Gary Vaynerchuk. Since I started my entrepreneurial journey eons ago, the name Gary Vee was on the periphery of my consciousness. The manner in which he harnesses the power of social media and understands the nuances of the entrepreneurial journey ceases to amaze me. Let's face it-he is crushing it.

With millions funneling into all things Sasha group, Vayner Media, and all of his glorious endeavors- Gary preaches kindness. The king of all things marketing and business leadership uses kindness as an underestimated currency. Simply, he understands that being kind is non-negotiable.

Gary had me at kindness.

Gary goes even further to espouse that kindness is the ultimate strength as warriors in buisness.

In a world of cutthroat wheelers and dealers, I have to wonder are these people truly living their best life. Being rich is one thing, and being fulfilled is another. I often am met with money-hungry clout chasers that want one thing--your soul.

It is refreshing when someone with unimaginable wealth still embraces a humble approach to building quality relationships. My entrepreneurial lens speaks to success being built on quality relationships as opposed to transactional relationships.

Who Is Gary Vee and Why Is He Crushing It?

Gary Vaynerchuk is a highly recognized entrepreneur, author, and internet personality who has become a thought leader for entrepreneurs around the world. Through his various business ventures and motivational content, Vaynerchuk has established himself as a leading voice in the business world. He regularly publishes books, blog posts, and videos that provide valuable information and advice for entrepreneurs. His willingness to share his knowledge has helped him to build a loyal following and establish himself as a thought leader in the business world.

While I continue to build my empire, I remind myself daily it is to be built on a solid foundation of credible collaborations and authentic relationships. I am continually assaulted with fierce pitches that are focused on monetization (OHHHH and I get monetization- believe me, we can not sustain a business on looks alone).

Why Is Gary Vee a thought leader for entrepreneurs like you and I?

THIS IS WHY:

 1. Authenticity and Relatability: Gary Vaynerchuk is known for his authenticity and relatable personality. Let's face it. I want to be Gary Vee when I grow up. I want to be a media maverick. And without pioneers like Gary, we simply flounder in the wind. Find your tribe. Find those people you connect with--who lift you higher.

p.s.--stay tuned. I have the honor of meeting and interviewing Gary Vee next month.

<![CDATA[How to Make Money By Storytelling]]>https://www.julielokuncoaching.com/post/how-to-make-money-by-storytelling64304fd4a642ad46e2b17276Fri, 07 Apr 2023 17:35:12 GMTJulie Drost LokunMy original article was written for Entrepreneur Magazine and this has been modified for my blog. I have added strategic steps to start unearthing your story to connect with your audience and grow your business.

Stories have been the stuff that binds the human race together for centuries. As entrepreneurs and business leaders, it is essential to understand how to convey your experiences in a powerful way to make a significant impact on your bottom line. Your business is your story, and without the underpinnings of a quality narrative, your service and product are just a service or product in the sea of a million others.

Audiences are no longer looking for flashy jingles and product-driven campaigns; they want to connect with brands on a visceral level. This is where storytelling comes in. Sharing your personal experiences, struggles, and successes can build trust and empathy with your audience, leading to stronger relationships and customer loyalty.

THE 4 REASONS YOU NEED TO START CREATING A STORY FOR YOUR BRAND AND BUSINESS

 • Forge a powerful emotional connection with your customers by crafting compelling stories that resonate with their deepest desires and aspirations.

 • Differentiate your business from competitors by sharing authentic, relatable, and memorable stories that capture the essence of your brand and establish your thought leadership in the industry.

 • Understand your audience's needs and preferences to create stories that engage and motivate them to take action.

 • Unleash the full potential of storytelling to build stronger relationships with your customers, foster trust and loyalty, and ultimately drive revenue growth.

Prince Harry's book, "SPARE," is a powerful example of how storytelling can be used to connect with a broader audience and convey a powerful message. By sharing his personal experiences in a relatable and nuanced way, he has built trust and empathy with his readers while also challenging negative narratives and taking ownership of his narrative.

To effectively use storytelling in your business, it is essential to understand your story, articulate it to your desired audience, and do so with integrity. Start by taking inventory of who you are and why you do what you do best.

Dive deep into your potential customer's pain points and solve their deepest problems.

THIS IS WHERE YOU START:

Define Your Story The first step in understanding your story is to define it.

Consider the following questions:

 • What inspired you to start your business?

 • What are your core values and beliefs?

 • What challenges have you faced along the way, and how have you overcome them?

 • What successes have you achieved, and what impact have they had on your business and your customers?

Once you have perfected your strategy, start sharing your story. It can be as simple as making a phone call, writing a blog, or speaking your truth on national television. By providing valuable information and advice, entrepreneurs can build credibility and attract a following of loyal customers.

Storytelling is changing the landscape of business. It builds a connection with the audience, communicates a message, makes the brand memorable, differentiates from the competition, and establishes thought leadership. As an entrepreneur or business leader, understanding and effectively using storytelling can help you stand out in a crowded market and establish yourself as a thought leader in your industry.

<![CDATA[5 Tips To Make Money As A Writer]]>https://www.julielokuncoaching.com/post/5-tips-to-make-money-as-a-writer641a3d598b283bfe3e3bf6fbWed, 22 Mar 2023 00:05:49 GMTJulie Drost Lokun

I began my career as a journalist three decades ago. The longevity of my career is paved with unfettered ambition and making ends meet. At that time, I had just earned a $40,000 diploma and demanded a salary as an $8/hour professional writer.

Although I was never good at math, I quickly realized $8 an hour meant I would have to survive on a budget that did not include designer jeans. My diet consisted mainly of ramen noodles and Little Debbie cupcakes. While a decadent culinary combination to some- I hungered for more.

With the freedom youth allows, I made the decision to pursue a degree in law. I will never regret the countless hours dedicated to my studies. I became a keen negotiator and strategic author of dozens of legal briefs. Yet, law school was not my final stop on my career-crazy train. I wandered through various paths, from marketing to international visa advocacy. Yet, I felt most at home when writing. It allowed me to tap into my creativity and reach a state of flow. When I suppressed my creative side, I felt lost and unfulfilled, and my wardrobe lacked any sense of purpose.

As a seasoned writer turned CEO turned media maverick, I encourage you to think outside of the box. Writing well is a lost art and with the onset of AI (artificial intelligence), competition is fierce. Yet, your voice is one of a kind and the unique angle you bring to your pieces can be a game changer.

I have the opportunity to write for Entrepreneur Magazine, Mind Valley, and have several corporate clients who understand the importance of a skilled director of communications. Take a deep breath, and rethink your approach to being a wordsmith.

Start Here:

--> Take a look at your portfolio. Do you have an extensive history of articles or clippings you can share with potential clients? I am a big fan of Muck Rack- (www.muckrack.com) which catalogs all the articles, blogs and RSS feeds you have shared online. It is a one-stop shop for journalists.

Next: Connect and Network.

-->Do an assessment of the content you are creating and determine who you can align with. Networks are essential and getting seen is non-negotiable.

Pro Tips:

 • Repurpose your content on Medium. Medium is the gold-standard blogging platform.

 • Start your own blog (LIKE THIS ONE). Visibility is everything and you want to make sure your skillset is searchable.

 • Pitch different outlets to create a regular cadence of content online. Better yet, get your story in old-fashioned print. A lot of this will be work done for free (at the beginning), but it is imperative you have a curated list of articles to pitch Tier 1 outlets.

Keep Reaching For More

There are several outlets and tools that can help new writers monetize their craft, including:

 1. Freelance writing platforms: Websites like Upwork, Freelancer, and Fiverr connect freelancers with clients who need writing services. Signing up for these platforms can provide new writers with opportunities to build their portfolios, gain experience, and make money.

 2. Pitching to publications: Pitching to publications is a great way for new writers to get their work published and earn money. Many publications, both online and print, pay for contributed articles. Writers can search for publications that align with their interests and pitch story ideas to editors.

 3. Affiliate marketing: Affiliate marketing involves promoting products or services on your website or blog and earning a commission on sales. New writers can join affiliate programs, such as Amazon Associates or ShareASale, and promote products related to their niche.

 4. Content creation for businesses: Many businesses need help creating content for their websites, social media channels, and marketing materials. New writers can offer their services to businesses in need of writing support, either on a freelance basis or through a content agency.

 5. Self-publishing: Self-publishing platforms, such as Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing and Smashwords, allow writers to publish their own books and earn royalties. New writers can write and publish their own ebooks or print-on-demand books and market them on their websites or social media channels.

FINALLY: Get on GOOGLE- everything you do as a modern writer has to be with foundational knowledge that Google will get you farther as a professional. Be clear on SEOs and be clear on your strategy to be searchable as a writer.

The truth is, is that our journeys as creatives or writers may not see the initial ROI on the blood, sweat, and tears we invest. This initial capital will overwhelm you at points, however with appropriate mentorship, strategy, and getting uncomfortable the payout is tremendous.

<![CDATA[7 Tips On How To Get Media Attention For Your Business]]>https://www.julielokuncoaching.com/post/7-tips-on-how-to-get-media-attention-for-your-business6401454e546f5892998c1d67Fri, 03 Mar 2023 01:17:42 GMTJulie Drost Lokun

Are you ready to get the attention you deserve?

Let's start at the beginning. Often Marketing and PR are confused. The fundamentals are distinct--yet, they both offer vehicles to build your brand.

What is Marketing? What is PR?

Marketing and public relations (PR) are two distinct disciplines, but they share some common goals and often work together to achieve them. Here are the key differences between marketing and PR:

 1. Goal: The goal of marketing is to create demand for a product or service and ultimately drive sales and revenue. The goal of PR is to build and maintain a positive reputation for a brand, increase brand awareness, and build relationships with stakeholders.

 2. Audience: Marketing typically targets a specific audience, usually based on demographics, interests, and behaviors. PR, on the other hand, targets a broader audience, including the media, investors, employees, customers, and the general public.

 3. Tactics: Marketing tactics include advertising, direct mail, email marketing, social media advertising, and sales promotions. PR tactics include media relations, press releases, events, influencer outreach, and crisis management.

 4. Metrics: Marketing metrics typically focus on sales and revenue, such as conversion rates, customer acquisition costs, and return on investment (ROI). PR metrics typically focus on brand awareness and reputation, such as media mentions, social media engagement, and sentiment analysis.

 5. Timeframe: Marketing campaigns typically have a short-term focus and are designed to achieve specific goals within a set timeframe. PR campaigns, on the other hand, have a long-term focus and are designed to build and maintain a positive reputation over time.

While marketing and PR have different goals and tactics, they both play a critical role in building a strong brand and driving business success. A well-coordinated marketing and PR strategy can help businesses to reach their target audience, build a positive reputation, and ultimately, achieve their business goals.

As an entrepreneur, it's essential to know how to pitch yourself to the media. Whether you're launching a new product, announcing an event, or simply sharing your expertise, getting your message in front of the right people can help increase brand awareness and boost your credibility.

Here's a comprehensive guide on how to pitch yourself to the media, the importance of a media sheet, what you need on the media sheet, and how to be your own PR agent.

 • Identify your target audience

Before you start pitching to the media, it's crucial to identify your target audience. Who are you trying to reach? What publications, blogs, or TV shows do they consume? By understanding your audience, you can tailor your message to resonate with them and increase your chances of getting coverage.

 • Craft a compelling story

To capture the attention of the media, you need to have a compelling story. Your story should be timely, relevant, and unique. Think about what makes your product or service stand out from the competition, what challenges you've overcome, or what trends you're tapping into. Your story should also have a human element – something that people can relate to or be inspired by.

 • Create a media sheet

A media sheet is a one-page document that provides all the essential information that a journalist or producer needs to cover your story. It's like a cheat sheet for the media. The media sheet should include the following:

 • A brief overview of your company or product

 • Your contact information, including email, phone number, and social media handles

 • A short bio or background information on you as an entrepreneur

 • High-resolution images or videos that can be used for the story

 • Any relevant statistics or data that support your story

 • Testimonials from customers or industry experts

NEXT:--->

 • Research media outlets

Once you have your story and media sheet ready, it's time to research media outlets. Look for publications, blogs, or TV shows that cater to your target audience. Study their editorial calendar and see if there are any upcoming opportunities that align with your story.

 • Pitch your story

When pitching your story, it's essential to personalize your message. Address the journalist or producer by name and reference their previous work. Start with a catchy subject line that summarizes your story in a few words. In the body of the email, briefly introduce yourself and your story. Then, offer to provide more information or schedule an interview. Remember to attach your media sheet and any relevant images or videos.

 • Follow up

Journalists and producers receive hundreds of pitches every day, so it's crucial to follow up. If you don't hear back after a week, send a friendly reminder. You can also try reaching out on social media or through a different channel.

 • Be your own PR agent

Finally, to be your own PR agent, you need to be proactive. Don't wait for the media to come to you – seek out opportunities to share your story. Look for speaking engagements, guest blogging opportunities, or podcasts that align with your brand. Use social media to engage with your audience and share your expertise. By being your own PR agent, you can establish yourself as a thought leader and increase your visibility.

I get it, pitching yourself to the media can be a daunting task, but with the right strategy and mindset, you can make it happen. By identifying your target audience, crafting a compelling story, creating a media sheet, researching media outlets, personalizing your pitch, following up, and being your own PR agent, you can increase your

Now that you understand the process here are some of my favorite PR tools:

 6. Google Analytics: Google Analytics is a free tool that allows you to track website traffic and measure the effectiveness of your PR campaigns. You can use Google Analytics to see how many people are visiting your website, where they're coming from, and which pages are most popular.

<![CDATA[What is ChatGPT? And Why Should I Care?]]>https://www.julielokuncoaching.com/post/what-is-chatgpt-and-why-should-i-care63e5b355bf7b93ddb38dc51aFri, 10 Feb 2023 03:19:08 GMTJulie Drost Lokun

This week, I wrote a partnership agreement in 3 minutes. This week I sent out 2 email sequences in 4 minutes. Today, I sent found 50 curated hashtags in 1 minute.

WELCOME TO THE NEW WORLD OF CHAT GTP

What is Chat GPT?

ChatGPT: Is Revolutionizing the Landscape for Businesses and Entrepreneurs

Artificial intelligence has revolutionized various industries, and the latest addition to this trend is OpenAI's ChatGPT. ChatGPT is a language model that has been trained on a massive dataset to understand human language and generate human-like responses. The model has been designed to assist businesses and entrepreneurs in a number of ways and is set to change the employment landscape as we know it.

Improving Efficiency and Agility

One of the most significant benefits of ChatGPT for businesses and entrepreneurs is its ability to automate tedious and repetitive tasks. ChatGPT can handle customer service inquiries, answer frequently asked questions, and even generate reports, freeing up employees to focus on more critical tasks. This increased efficiency and agility will allow businesses to save time and money while improving the overall customer experience.

Reducing Employment Costs

ChatGPT has the potential to change the employment landscape by reducing the need for a large workforce. With the ability to automate routine tasks, businesses can reduce their employment costs, freeing up resources that can be redirected toward growth and development. This reduction in employment costs will allow businesses to remain competitive and maintain their bottom line in a rapidly changing economy.

Enhancing Customer Experience

ChatGPT has been designed to provide quick and accurate responses to customer inquiries, improving the overall customer experience. The model's ability to understand natural language and provide human-like responses means that customers can receive the information they need quickly and easily, without having to navigate complex menus or wait on hold for hours. This enhanced customer experience will drive customer loyalty and improve a business's reputation.

Providing 24/7 Support

Another major benefit of ChatGPT is its ability to provide 24/7 support. Businesses can use the model to handle customer inquiries outside of regular business hours, ensuring that their customers receive the support they need when they need it. This round-the-clock support will help businesses maintain a competitive edge and provide a significant boost to their bottom line.

While this innovative powerhouse has the potential to change how we do business, are there issues looming with this AI advancement?

ChatGPT and other AI technologies have the potential to automate certain tasks that were previously done by humans. This could result in job losses in certain industries. However, it's important to note that AI also has the potential to create new jobs and improve existing jobs by making them more efficient and fulfilling.

The jobs most at risk of being automated by ChatGPT and other AI technologies are those that involve routine, repetitive tasks, such as data entry, customer service, and certain types of administrative work. For example, ChatGPT can be used to automate routine customer service tasks, like answering frequently asked questions, which could lead to job losses for customer service representatives.

However, it's important to understand that AI is not going to replace all jobs. Instead, it will change the nature of work and create new opportunities for people to use their unique skills and talents in new and exciting ways. For example, AI can help humans be more productive and creative, allowing them to focus on the tasks that require their unique abilities and skills.

So, while ChatGPT and other AI technologies may have the potential to eradicate certain jobs, it's important to remember that they also have the potential to create new jobs and enhance the quality of existing jobs. And, as with any new technology, it's up to us to determine how it will be used and how it will impact our lives and our work.

The Deets: This is why I think ChatGPT is a non-negotiable

Here's why I love ChatGPT and why it has captured my heart:

 1. Chatting with ChatGPT feels like talking to a real person: ChatGPT has been designed to understand and respond to natural language, which means that chatting with it feels like talking to a real person. Whether I'm asking a question, making a request, or just having a casual conversation, ChatGPT always provides human-like responses that are natural and engaging.

 2. ChatGPT helps me save time and be more productive: ChatGPT can automate routine tasks, like writing reports or answering frequently asked questions. This saves me time and helps me be more productive, so I can focus on the things that are truly important to me.

 3. ChatGPT is always available: ChatGPT is always available, 24/7, which means I can use it whenever I need it. Whether I'm working on a project in the middle of the night or need an answer to a question on the weekend, ChatGPT is always there to help.

 4. ChatGPT makes me feel like I have a super-smart friend: ChatGPT is like having a super-smart friend who can answer any question I have, help me with my projects, and even make me laugh. It's always there for me, and I love that feeling of having a trustworthy and intelligent companion.

So, whether you're looking to save time, be more productive, or just have a fun conversation, ChatGPT is an amazing tool that I wholeheartedly recommend. It has captured my heart, and I know it will do the same for you.

By Julie Lokun, JD

Originally printed in Entreprenuer Magazine Online

And so the anecdote continues…..

A woman, a man, and an elephant walk into the boardroom……

(insert quippy reflection here). The truth is that 92% of the time, a man will secure his place in the boardroom, and only 8% of these elite corporate heads are female. The elephant in the room is the apparent lack of females with a seat at the table. With the disparate ratio of male CEOs to female CEOs peppering the landscape of corporate America, the illusion of gender equality needs to be rethought. Gender equality in the workplace is spoon-fed into our ecosystems from an early age. Yet, the results are difficult to quantify as the percentage of CEOs worldwide is predominantly male. If we look back at the emergence of women claiming their spot in the workforce, we must look to Rosie the Riveter and her presence as an integral part of the predominantly male workforce during World War II. Many brought tools home from work and used them on their home repairs. They took on domestic roles they never had before. World War II mobilization affected women by introducing them to new lines of work not typically suited for women at the time.

During the 1960s, 70s and 80s, feminist activism became the mantra that little girls adopted as their new reality. Richly diverse women joined this call to arms and became involved in this feminist movement. This era of women's rights exploded in the United States and worldwide, forever changing society by expanding rights, opportunities and identities. With all the strides made in the past decades, the United States lags globally, ranking 27th on overall progress. As a young girl in the 80s and 90s, I was taught that there were no limits to my professional aspirations, yet I continued to hit the proverbial glass ceiling. I went to law school, completed a master's certification, and was never taken seriously like my male counterparts. I earned the accolades, wrote the articles, hob-knobbed with the powerful constructs of corporate greatness…and then, nothing. My role as an entrepreneur hinges on those who have gone before me and made a path for females to claim their birthright as CEO of their own corporate dream. Conversations with a mentor or coach are essential in pushing your leadership skills to the next level.

In particular, I remember a conversation with a CEO and Mom-Boss, Tracy Hazzard. Hazzard is the CEO and founder of Podetize who is normalizing the role of a wildly intelligent and unapologetic momma who is balancing the teeter-totter women who believe they can have it all. She taught me the art of embracing carpools, breastfeeding and gobbling up the totality of my female-CEO dreams. She is a curator of female employees who delight in the autonomy of a professionally focused life rooted in family growth.

Creating a business model that embraces the idea of female autonomy, coupled with the tools to navigate success, is the blueprint for up-and-coming entrepreneurs who celebrate diversity and champion unlimited potential. Being a mother of four boys, I knew it was essential to their development that they witness their mother be firm in her rise to the top of corporate mayhem in conjunction with the day-to-day toggling of bandaging boo-boos and heralding playdates. These two roles we play as mothers and bosses are a rickety rite of passage that can be accomplished. Digging deeper into exploring the qualities of top-tier female CEOs, I recognized a pattern that was the foundation for sustainable success.

 1. Build a team — both professionally and personally. The number one mistake entrepreneurs make is doing work others can do. Micromanaging is an exercise in control and binds leaders to unproductive execution. Building a competent team who executes on behalf of your company freed you of time, energy and focus. Hire an executive assistant, hire a marketing guru and lock arms with childcare providers.

 2. Find a mentor who has gone before you. Nothing is more important than seeking out and engaging with a leader who understands your path. Mentorship is essential to the executive experience, and many CEOs and Boss Mommas are eager to impart their knowledge to rising stars. Do your research and reach out. Asking questions is more powerful than executing answers.

 3. Think differently than your male counterparts. As women, we have the intuitive ability to think differently than our male equals. This is our superpower. Our vantage point is a strength. When women aspire to be a part of the "boys club," we do a disservice to a demographic that yearns to be heard.

 4. Understand your strengths and then magnify them by 10xing your strengths. Ask yourself, what are your strengths? I dimmed my light for so long because I wanted to make everyone around me feel comfortable. This left a void in my life that silently diminished my joy. Not until I recognized my strengths in writing and elevating the voices around me did I reach my truest potential.

 5. Be confident in your priorities, and do not make excuses. We, as women, tend to make excuses. When asked to perform professional tasks, we minimize our roles as mothers. This results in an imbalance in our lives and creates chaos. We can maintain a healthy equilibrium when we are confident in our priorities and vocalize this to our teams.

<![CDATA[4 Ways To Make More Money! Stop Living Paycheck To Paycheck]]>https://www.julielokuncoaching.com/post/4-ways-to-make-more-money-and-stop-living-paycheck-to-paycheck6394c8886712b5a453eb47e8Sat, 10 Dec 2022 19:04:32 GMTJulie Drost LokunAre you underpaid for your services?

How much are you getting paid for the work you are doing?

Are you stretching your dollar thin? The paycheck-to-paycheck phenomenon is exacerbated during the holiday season. We spend a lot of money during this season which eventually leads to a financial wake-up call. Couple these high expenses with the reality of a recession-may leave us all financially breathless.

According to Zippia.com entrepreneurs make $70,849 per year on average, or $34.06 per hour, in the United States. Entrepreneurs on the lower end of that spectrum, the bottom 10% to be exact, make roughly $42,000 a year, while the top 10% make $118,000. Location impacts how much an entrepreneur can expect to make. Entrepreneurs make the most in New York, Connecticut, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Michigan.

And for those that are gainfully employed the median salary in the United States is $70, 784. The median necessary living wage across the entire US is $67,690. The state with the lowest annual living wage is Mississippi, with $58,321. The state with the highest living wage is Hawaii, with $136,437. Other expensive states (unsurprisingly) included New York and California, which have notoriously high costs of living and expensive housing markets.

How can you make more money?

This is a question as old as time. The more we work, the more we do, and the more we realize that our income is not working for us anymore. Most recently, I took a road trip, and filling my gas tank was over $77 a pop. I thought to myself, how can someone making $34.06 per hour justify a weekend away?

If you are an entrepreneur-how can you make more money? This is a position many entrepreneurs find themselves in. Many entrepreneurs and creatives find themselves giving away their services for free or for under-market value. I understand the struggle. For so many years I was driven by a mission of helping people. This resulted in the cost of burnout and questioning my business plan. While I am adamant about serving those with limited resources, I had to consider the welfare of my mental health and my family's needs.

Until, I got real with myself.

I remember the days when I first started my entrepreneurial venture. I was driven to give as much of myself as I could. I was determined to be a good role model for my kids and help as many people as I could. I was the epitome of an altruistic business plan. I had a vision, yet, I did not have the financial savvy to build and scale a thriving business. (I kept telling myself, I am making a difference--this was my excuse)

Clients who clamored for free help started knocking at my door. I had one client after another pitching the reasons they could not invest in themselves.

This pulled at my heartstrings.

One quiet afternoon, my husband asked to have a conversation. Russ, my husband of 15 years, sat down in my office and asked me the question, "Are you making any money"?

Gulp. Gasp. Reality hit.

I gasped and covered up this inquiry with a half-smile. "What do you mean hun"?

My husband has been in business for himself for over 20 years. He has weathered volatility and immense financial upset. Yet, every year he boasts a healthy profit. At that moment I realized that I was leading with my heart and not embracing the role of a businesswoman. From that moment on, I recognized the duality of being a heart-centered entrepreneur. I had the power to help, and I have the power to make a substantial income. My head was now in the game.

With one fell swoop, the support of a mentor, and a new lease on entrepreneur life, I became the badass businesswoman I was destined to be. Let me preface my tips by saying it is your duty as a professional or entrepreneur to give back and support your community. It is your duty to leave this earth a better place than you found it. Yet, you do not need to sacrifice your need to give for your destiny to thrive.

Rules To Live By

A pattern I notice is that when people do not invest in themselves, they do not do the work. You are doing a disservice by offering your skillset for free. It is tempting to give away everything, however, it accomplishes little.

 1. Understand your value. What skills do you offer that no one else does? Position yourself as an expert in your industry. Be boastful and share how you do things better than anyone else. Do not be cocky. Access your confidence and share this vision with potential clients and customers. Your services, products, or skillset is worth something. Be consistent with your price.

 2. The art of negotiation. Never approach a deal or a contract with a fixed mindset. Often your counterpart will begin with a lowball offer. Understand your pricing boundaries and do not waiver. If a potential client or customer walks away, understand that this is not an ideal transaction.

 3. Do the research. It is essential you understand your competition. Do a SWOT analysis. This is the gold standard in auditing your potential. SWOT stands for STRENGTHS, OPPORTUNITY, WEAKNESS, and THREATS. Grab a piece of paper and take time to reflect on what you offer your potential and your deficits.

 4. Take massive action. When you have clarity on your position, your brand recognition, and your capabilities put on your creative cap and start singing your praises everywhere possible. Take the time to care for your brand and build solid relationships in different places.

If you are ready to think about how you do money better and build a business or income-make a commitment to yourself. This is where the power is. Take back your power today.

If you are looking to understand how to manage your money and are looking to increase your financial literacy--meet my bestie, Keri Dattilo, who is changing our relationships with money.

Building a thriving business and building a life that is worry-free is a hard ask. It starts with ourselves. Before you get overwhelmed reach out to mentors like Keri, Or simply use Google as a tool to understand how you want to proceed with your financial life. I love up leveling the lives of professionals and had the opportunity to meet one of the most prolific leaders in business expansion, Dan Martell. Dan Martell changed the way I look at my business. He helped me to understand the power of investing in ourselves and paying for help. I immediately changed my business plan and began to invest in the power of people who support my vision. But first, the audit....

Julie Lokun, Branding Expert forcasts top branding trends in 2023

If you are looking to uplevel your branding game in 2023 it is essential to audit your brand in 2022. What worked? What did not work?

Let's Take A Quick Audit on Your Brand⬇⬇⬇

Ask yourself these questions:

 • Did your brand elicit an emotional connection with your clients? What was your strength/weakness?

 • Are your visuals memorable? Remember it takes approximately 12 touchpoints to have a potential client or customer even know you exist. The more memorable the better.

 • How was your overarching engagement? Engagement is the key to building a strong brand. A brand that has thousands of followers on social media with no engagement is wasted energy.

 • What channels effectively produced ROI? (Return On Investment). Did you have high-quality engagement and leads on social media, a blog, your website, social audio, in-person speaking engagements, press releases, and collaborative events?

 • What message fell thru the cracks in your branding strategy in 2022? How can you refresh your messaging in 2023?

Messaging is universal. Whether you are a coach, a consultant, or a podcaster. an author or a one-woman-band, brand packaging is spoken in one language. The language of branding is slowly morphing from phronetic energy overload to simplistic boldness. Minimalism focused content, and bold colors reign supreme in the next year.

Here are some ways you can rethink and refresh your brand so you become a staple in the lives of your consumer.

 1. Keep it simple stupid--(KISS). Yes, keep your creativity at a minimum. We don't like overly worded attempts to lure us into your ecosystem. We demand bold attempts at branding, brighter colors and a few words (SEOS if possible) to win our hearts. **sidenote: bright hues and neon are making a comeback. Do not dismiss past trends. Look to the '80s for inspiration.

 2. Mission Forward Branding Makes Us Happy--Piggybacking on the idea of simplicity, we, as consumers are wanting to change the world. Convey to your audience the way you are adding value to the world. Nobody likes a greedy brand. We want to be wowed by your altruistic attempts to leave this world a better place.

 3. Make Us Laugh--This world needs a good laugh right now. Recession, inflation, and social disarray leaves the potential consumer in a depressed state. We need a good chuckle-and why not infuse your brand with irreverent humor? It works, and it is the salve that will connect you to a dissatisfied demographic.

 4. Humanize your brand-- Pull up your chairs and listen in. You are a brand. You are trying to grow and scale your brand, so do not forget you are a human. We need to remember that those vulnerable points, and those interesting challenges in our journey make us relatable.

Branding Expert Julie Lokun Shares The Top Branding Trends In 2023

Final Thoughts:

Stop squirreling around. Stop chasing shiny objects and packing everything you do into your brand. You need to understand the strengths of your brand and go bold.

GO BOLD OR GO HOME

Be clear, be consistent and engaging. This is the magic that will take your business to the next level.

If you do the work, you will succeed. Take Inspired Action--Jules

<![CDATA[The 4 Lessons I Learned From Queen Elizabeth]]>https://www.julielokuncoaching.com/post/the-4-lessons-i-learned-from-queen-elizabeth63236230d8461cac54b77ba2Thu, 15 Sep 2022 17:39:07 GMTLeadership BlogThis is a reprint of my article on Entrepreneur.com

Listen To Our Podcast Here: OBSESSED

With the bittersweet conclusion of Queen Elizabeth's 70-year reign, the lessons of Elizabeth's leadership as sovereign cannot be minimalized. Elizabeth was thrust onto the throne, untethered and relatively untrained. She inherited a multi-dimensional position as sovereign of her country and the figurehead of the Commonwealth of Nations. For seven decades, Elizabeth forged her way through triumph, tragedy and trauma, yet experienced exponential growth and unrivaled admiration.

As an entrepreneur, it is with a keen eye that we must glean through the thicket of immense experiences Elizabeth forged. As a business owner, lessons on her leadership hold a dynamic approach to how we must conduct our business. Queen Elizabeth understood that her platform was as a visionary. Her platform was not focused on immediate gratification, yet it was positioned to weather volatility. Her Majesty understood the power of playing the long game.

1. Keep calm and carry on

As an entrepreneur, we are subjected to wild rides of instability, growth, and innovation. Elizabeth ascended to the throne through an unexpected turn of events. Her uncle Edward resigned, leaving Elizabeth's father the hesitant heir to the throne. Elizabeth began her young adulthood not positioning herself as one of the most powerful figureheads in the world. Instead, she was swept up in a passionate marriage to Philip, a swashbuckling naval officer who gallantly provided adventure and normalcy for the young princess.

At age 26, while on an official tour of Kenya, Princess Elizabeth became Queen. Her father died at an early age, and in his last heartbeat, she became sovereign. With the stoicism of her forefathers, she embraced her duties and became, perhaps, the most famous working mother on the planet. Elizabeth understood the importance of duty and securing the legacy of the crown.

The lesson learned is that while we, as entrepreneurs, are faced with incredible highs and lows, we must maintain an equilibrium. We must understand the prioritization of duties and carry them out to our fullest capacity. Riding the wave of the unknown and having the tenacity to maintain the clarity of the mission is essential for long-term growth and success.

2. Never complain, never explain

Legend has it that the motto of the Windsor Family is, "Never Complain, Never Explain." This credo speaks to the strength in leadership as the cornerstone of being the beacon for our brand. Queen Elizabeth was the brand of the United Kingdom. She was steadfast and consistent and did not dabble in frivolities, political alliances and hearsay.

When modern leaders are often swept up in the diversions of drama, conducting themselves in a discretionary manner and surrounding themselves with trusted advisors creates an ecosystem of respect. It is important to monitor your brand's presence and be consistent in the messaging you wish to illicit.

3. Adapt to change

The Queen's reign spanned seven decades which weaved in and out of social, political and personal changes. Her career timeline shadows a documented history aligned with public adoration and dipped into sheer dislike.

Her accession was baptized in the bleak austerity of a post-war reality and morphed into the glamour and youth that inaugurated her position as a sovereign. Elizabeth, in the 90s, fell subject to deep distaste for the stoic leader unable to connect with her country after the death of Princess Diana. Ultimately, her legacy was built upon her steadfast ability to adapt during challenging times.

Queen Elizabeth's popularity weaved in and out of satisfaction, adoration and complacency. Her ability to ascertain her empire's trends, needs and desires kept her a steady presence in the consciousness of her brand's consumption.

This adaption is equally as important to entrepreneurs navigating fluctuations in their business. A solid business model should have the underpinnings to support turbulent markets, trends and socio-economic changes. It is important to understand your business's long-term vision and viability and be flexible in how you approach your brand's positioning.

4. Train your predecessors

Building a business is an arduous task and can feel isolating. You must have a backup plan and a predecessor who understands the mission and vision of your business. Queen Elizabeth, with diligence, strategically mentored and trained her heirs apparent. Elizabeth instinctively understood that the monarchy's viability rested not only upon her shoulders but on the shoulders of her heirs, Charles, William and George. With precision, the most recent royal optics portrayed her successors as strong and capable members of the firm.

Elizabeth's extensive tenure as monarch lent her the ability to train and mentor future monarchs. She forged exclusive time to coach them on the responsibilities they were expected to complete. Elizabeth understood, through experience, that it was her duty to pass the torch to the following generations.

As with entrepreneurs, it is essential to carve out valuable time to mentor and teach your team so they have the tools to facilitate your business's ultimate mission and goals. Queen Elizabeth's legacy and lessons will live on for generations to follow. Her leadership has provided a formidable roadmap for leaders worldwide.

I love analytics. I love website traffic. Ultimately, the more traffic you attract the more relationships you have the opportunity to build. More importantly, I am on a mission to understand the complexities of building a loyal following on my website. I adore the dance with Google, and ask, "How can I make you love me more"?

Here are two of my favorite ways to grow my business organically. They are different, yet the same. SEOs and Pinterest flirt with Google and bring hits to my website organically.

Warning: Take this sage advice with a steady cadence. Entrepreneurs are always striving to build their audience and reach. Overwhelm can be a distinct path to burnout.

Tip #1 : SEOs- ( SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZERS)

The power of SEOs can change your business and website's visibility. I am obsessed with the power of SEOs (SEARCH ENGINE OPTIMIZERS). SEOs are simply keywords that your audience searches for to find you. Keywords are the key to unlocking the path for thousands or millions of potential clients, customers, or superfans to find your site.

The world of search engine optimization is complex and ever-changing, but you can easily understand the basics, and even a small amount of SEO knowledge can make a big difference. I liken SEOs to chasing water down a mountain. You capture the perfect word in the palm of your hands and then it is gone. POOF!

The game changes. The SEO game is a marathon, not a sprint. It is important you do the research on SEO's and I am a big champion of Keywords Everywhere. Keywords Everywhere is a Chrome extension that allows you to do comprehensive research on SEOs. It allows you to see the analytics of competitive websites and glean from their keyword success.

To understand the magnitude of SEOs-start by asking yourself, what would my potential client/customer be googling? It is important to pepper in your website content with these key phrases to catch the attention of all search engines. This expansive topic is fascinating for me (frustrating for others). Tip #2: Pinterest- Let Me Introduce You To This Search Engine

(I'm obsessed with the sleeping giant.)

Don’t be fooled by this unassuming powerhouse of a search engine. Yes, I said search engine. Many users are misinformed about Pinterest’s power, and they often label it “social media.” I’m obsessed with this platform since it is Google in disguise. Pinterest attracts users that are in the discovery phase of a search. Users are looking for recipes, clothing, and even inspiration in their lives. And, the amazing part of the user experience is that users are poised to purchase. The algorithms are such that content can be used and reused, unlike social media platforms.

The Pinterest algorithm soaks up current pins. For example, if it is February, pins that smack of love and Valentine’s tend to garner more interest. How do you start on Pinterest? Use your Canva account to create appealing visuals that aren't blatant advertisements. First, think about your desired audience and ask yourself, what would this audience be interested in? My desired audience is interested in personal and professional development, so they are most likely drawn to words of inspiration and personal growth tips. Don’t make your pin specific to a sale or advertisement. Draw in your audience with a visually appealing display of something you represent. For example, a client who happens to own a bakery should post a recipe or a photo of a decadent pastry. This expands visibility. Remember, visibility is the key to establishing your brand.

Why Pinterest Works

When you draw a client in with your vibrant pin, you have the opportunity to expand on this pin in your content. When a user clicks on the pin, it immediately takes them to your website. This provides a one-step process. A photo and simple content attract a user; then, they are swept to your website, where you can elaborate on your life-altering product or service. The simple 1-click step of getting a user to your website will lead to client engagement and a possible sale. (Remember, simple is better. The more a user is required to navigate different platforms, the more likely you will lose their attention.) What's even better? If a Pinterest user pins one of your pins to their board, all of their followers will experience your brand. Pinterest has the capability to expand your visibility exponentially.

My Tip: Budget a little money to invest in Pinterest Ads. You can budget as little as two dollars a day, and your pins will be seen. My website hits doubled in the first week of testing out this marketing strategy.

Sidenote:

*The demographics of Pinterest are 80% women who possess untapped buying potential. I typically curate my pins to be female-centric.

The life of an entrepreneur is one of trial and error. Understand what works for you. Yet, never rest on your laurels. The creativity lies in the explosion of exploration.

<![CDATA[3 Tips To Build Your Media Presence like a Maverick]]>https://www.julielokuncoaching.com/post/3-ways-to-be-a-maverick-in-media-by-building-an-authentic-brand62a61527cca7c78e6829565bSun, 12 Jun 2022 17:57:31 GMTGuess what movie I just saw?

Hint: Maverick (Top Gun) with

Tom Cruise.

I walked into the theater with full-on buttered popcorn and no expectations. The exhilarating story of a cutting-edge fighter pilot took me on a ride where I felt that I was the co-pilot. Maverik was a leader in terms of getting in the cock pit and doing what he demanded of his team. Maverick led his crew with integrity and took calculated risks. His roguish precision was a nail-biting tribute to his training and authority. Maverick embodied his purpose, passion, and love for living on the edge.

How does Maverick's flair for pushing the envelope translate to our ambition to be successful as professionals? Simply put, we need to push our limits and also stay grounded in our personal morals and mission. With a broad stroke for gravitas, I will suggest that we are all bombarded with shiny object syndrome. We chase what is new and the blind promise of the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

When we chase shiny objects we are distracted from our core mission and goals.

Definition of Shiny Object Syndrome:

Shiny object syndrome, also called "SOS" is a pop-cultural, psychological concept where people focus on a shiny, new object, in other words, whatever is most current, trendy, or the latest concept, regardless of how valuable or helpful it may ultimately be. While at the moment it seems to be something worth focusing one's attention upon, it is ultimately a distraction, either a personal distraction or something that is done intentionally to distract others.

We are told that we need followers on social media to be relevant. We are told that we need have our perfect images splashed on YouTube and TikTok. Yet the return on investment is minimal. When we take a look at buyer behaviors it is clear that intimacy is what buyers, listeners, and readers crave. Typically a buyer, client, or audience needs to have an intimate attachment to our messaging. The polished, slick and often filtered snapshots on social media are not connectable messages.

Humans, as a collective want to protect themselves from judgment, pain, and disillusionment. We want to be liked. We strive to be adored. I hypothesize that the constructs of social media and the pursuit of instant gratification are a great distractor in building influence and real relationships.

The human experience is one of protection. When we are frightened we tell ourselves to self-protect. We do everything we can to armor ourselves up and protect ourselves from negative experiences.

This is where Brene Brown jumps in.

Brene Brown (if you have been hiding under a rock), is an American research professor, lecturer, author, and podcast host. Brown is known in particular for her research on shame, vulnerability, and leadership. A long-time researcher and academic, Brown became famous following a widely viewed TEDx talk in 2010. Since then she has written six number-one New York Times bestselling books, hosts two podcasts, and has filmed a lecture for Netflix as well as a series about her latest book, Atlas Of The Heart on HBO Max.

When we’re afraid, even our neurobiology screams ARMOR UP. Everything screams, “Self protect!” As Brown says, if we want to be consciously daring, we need to say no armor. We have to double down on being both transparent and vulnerable. If you’re feeling beat up right now, you’re in good company. The easy thing is to self-protect, but if you want to keep moving toward your mission, you’ve got to refuel.

The hybrid of Maverick and Brene:

How can we, as professionals up our game with emotional integrity? Quite simply it is to take calculated risks and be authentic. Ask yourself- are feeling burnout from doing everything and nothing is happening? If the answer is yes, read on. Personal and professional satisfaction starts with self-awareness.

Building your personal or professional brand begins on a journey of discovery.

The Maverick-Inspired tips to holistic growth:

First and foremost, my favorite tool is writing a mission statement. There is profound power in seeing the foundation of your vision and values scrawled on paper. A mission statement cannot simply be written and read.

Your mission statement needs to be lived.

A mission statement needs to articulate why you exist, what you stand for and the goals you strive for. On paper, your mission statement is powerful. However, inaction nullifies your mission. A mission statement is only powerful when you take inspired action.

I am obsessed with the power of a mission statement. It can be a confusing exercise in putting pen to paper-so I often recommend Franklin Covey's Mission Statement Builder. This mission statement builder is easy to follow and prompts you with questions to curate a statement that reflects where you are and where you want to go.

Once you have taken a moment to articulate a purpose-driven mission the journey begins. When you soak in the profound reflection of your earthly existence, you are called to action. Take inspired action. Nothing happens when you are complacent in your life. A real-life maverick takes inspired action in alignment with their purpose. A maverick is unorthodox and edgy. A maverick lives life on the edge.

Be a maverick.

A maverick: An unorthodox or independent-minded person

Be vulnerable, yet do not overshare. Audiences crave the hero story. Audiences crave someone they connect with who took a leap of faith. Audiences adore the hero story and kicking fear in the face.

 • What is your hero story?

 • What can you do differently?

 • How can you take calculated risks to share your story and brand?

I am obsessed with sharing my story on podcasts. My story weaves tales of low self-esteem, people-pleasing, perfectionism, divorce, trials in parenting, and the search to leave my legacy on earth. These are the stories that connect me with my audience.

Get out there. Pitch yourself on different mediums. Write a blog. Write a book. Get creative with the story you need to tell. I know blogging is something I am passionate about. I understand the power of SEOs. (I love KEYWORDS EVERYWHERE for SEO boosts).

Court Google with reckless abandon. Once you understand the mission that you are firmly rooted in-start creating. Send out press releases (I love EIN Presswire). Pitch yourself to podcasts. After all, guesting on a podcast is essentially free marketing.

Pitch yourself to media outlets. Your story needs to be heard. Building relationships through the vehicle of media expedites your overall mission. Get your voice heard the right way. Take calculated risks that disseminate your message. Be unabashedly you and build authentic relationships through your story.

Just like Maverick.

P.S. I just had the opportunity to interview the original Maverick, helicopter pilot, and really nice human and family man, Rear Admiral Garry E. Hall. Garry served as the national security advisor to the president and has a podcast called Admiral's Almanac. Garry embodies the gusto of Maverick and stays rooted in his mission.

Watch it here!

And do not forget to share your voice. Share your stories on podcasts!
